New Testament Scholar and Bible Translator Bruce Metzger Dies
My mentor in college was Dr. Paul Livermore who did his Ph.D. at Princeton and studied under Dr. Bruce Metzger. Livermore used to say about Metzger, "He's so good he could hear grass grow." I encourage you to read Dr. Metzger's obituary. His influence on Biblical scholarship and on literally every person who has ever worked with NT Greek is unparalleled. Even more impressive than all of his contributions to the church: he was married 63 years. |

One of the highlights of my time at NPTS was a short December term of two weeks with Bruce Metzger as a guest lecturer. Not many people signed up because it sounded like some old guy who would be dry as bones but he was utterly delightful and fascinating, and the entire class wound up taking him out for lunch on the final day - to that little place on the southeast corner of Foster and Lincoln.
He was a very cool guy.
